Talo Guide

FAQ

Quick answers to the most common questions when you start using Talo.

If you have a specific question you don't see here, check Troubleshooting or send your question from Feedback.

Do I need to know how to code to use Talo?

No. You write what you need in plain language, like talking to a coworker, and the assistant produces documents, diagrams, boards, or other deliverables inside your project. You don't need to open a terminal or understand code for normal app use.

Do I need both Claude Code and Codex, or is one enough?

One is enough. Talo works with Claude Code or Codex; you can connect both if you want to switch between them, but it's not required. You can install whichever one you're missing from the app itself, no terminal needed. More in Installation.

Do my client data get mixed up between projects?

Talo keeps memory, instructions, and conversations separate per project. In a general chat you can turn on cross-project queries, with sources identified. A CLI agent's permissions need extra review; that separation isn't an absolute guarantee of Mac isolation. More detail in Memory and Privacy and security.

Can an automation ever run without me reviewing it?

What the assistant creates always starts paused. You have to activate it. And when it runs, it works on a copy of your project, never the real folder. If it changes anything, it stays "Changes pending review" until you open the diff and click "Apply". Nothing reaches your real project without that step. Full details are in the recipe Automatic weekly report and review and in Automations.

Can I use Talo offline?

Partly. Working with documents, diagrams, and the whiteboard is completely local, and the included skill catalog installs without a network. But talking to the assistant needs a connection, because Claude Code and Codex call their model over the internet.

What are TALO.md and TABLERO.md? Are they normal files I can open outside Talo?

Yes, they're normal Markdown text files, saved in the project folder. TALO.md holds how to work on that project (tone, format, context) and you can open it with any text editor. TABLERO.md saves the task board in Obsidian's Kanban plugin format, so if you open the project folder as an Obsidian vault, you can also see it and move cards from there. More in Projects and Tasks.

Does the assistant read all my documents without me knowing?

Memory indexes local content from supported file types so it can retrieve relevant passages. When you talk to an agent, your message and that context can reach its provider; the agent can also open files available by its permissions. You can pause memory or exclude folders. See Memory and Privacy and security.

Can I work on several client projects at the same time?

Yes. You can have several projects open and switch between them from the sidebar; each keeps its own context, documents, and conversations without mixing with the others.

Does Talo support Telegram?

Not yet in this beta.

What happens to my projects and conversations when Talo updates?

Talo includes profile migrations on first launch after updating. Testing with synthetic profiles has preserved projects, conversations, and drafts, but the migration of another person's real profile is still pending validation. Before updating a beta you already use, save a backup of your profile and follow the team guide. macOS may ask again for permissions or a new session at a provider.

If a change from another app or another person breaks something in my project, does Talo just overwrite it?

No. Whether it's a document, diagram, whiteboard, or TABLERO.md, if Talo detects that the file changed outside while you had your own changes, it warns of the conflict instead of silently overwriting. You decide which version stays.

How do I ask for help or report a problem?

From Talo's Feedback section you can send a problem or suggestion; you can also check Troubleshooting first in case it's something with a quick fix.
